About this map
Each state is shaded by the total facility power of its reviewed planned AI data centers: the projects developers and hyperscalers have announced but not yet energized, summed from Epoch AI's project-level evidence. States without a reviewed planned project stay neutral — missing evidence is treated as unknown, never as zero.
A state's figure is the sum of the latest future-milestone facility-power estimates for distinct reviewed facilities attributed to that state, with site counts and named owners carried from the same records. The industrial power column joins the statewide average retail rate to ultimate industrial customers from the U.S. Energy Information Administration — the public benchmark siting teams start from. Projects leave the map when they are cancelled and graduate off it when they become operational.
Read the map and the power column together: electricity is the largest recurring input cost of an AI data center, and announced capacity clusters where industrial rates are low and land and interconnection are available. Every state links to its own evidence page with project-level detail, grid carbon intensity, and AI workforce data.
