How the credit pool works

Every plan includes a monthly credit pool that’s spent as you use the platform. 1 credit = $0.005 retail — the same rate whether the credit came bundled with your plan or you topped up à la carte. Plans bundle credits at a discount baked into the plan price (Pro’s 30,000 credits would cost $150 à la carte; the plan is $250 total, so you’re paying $100 for the platform itself on top of the credit value).

Per-operation costs (sourced from backend/app/core/credits.py):

1 credit per national rank check — one DataForSEO Google SERP probe per keyword.
1 credit per geo-grid cell — a 3×3 scan is 9 credits; a 5×5 is 25; a 10×10 is 100. Same DataForSEO Maps probe per cell as the free 3×3 tool.
8 credits per AI rank run — one (prompt × provider × sample) execution. A daily check across ChatGPT + Claude + Gemini at 3 samples each = 9 runs = 72 credits/day per prompt.
200 credits per article generated beyond your free allowance — articles inside your plan’s free allowance (10 / 30 / 100 articles per month on Basic / Starter / Pro) cost nothing; only overflow articles charge the credit pool. Covers the full pipeline: research, writing, image generation, publishing.
1 credit per audit grid point — for the on-page audit’s map probes.

When the pool runs low, top up with à la carte credit packs at $0.005/credit (Stripe checkout). Pack credits roll over and don’t expire; plan-included credits reset at the start of each billing cycle.

What's a credit?

A credit is the universal unit of usage on rank.ai. 1 credit = $0.005 retail. Every plan includes a monthly credit pool that's spent across every billable feature: 1 credit per national rank check, 1 credit per geo-grid cell (so a 3×3 scan is 9 credits, a 10×10 is 100), 8 credits per AI rank run (one prompt × one provider × one sample), 200 credits per article generated beyond your free article allowance. The dashboard shows a live ledger.

What counts as one article generation?

One full pipeline run: deep research (Firecrawl + SERP + competitor scrape) → outline → multi-pass writing → image generation → publish. You're billed once per article — re-generating the image or re-running a section doesn't double-charge. Articles inside your monthly free article allowance (10 on Basic, 30 on Starter, 100 on Pro) cost $0; only overflow articles charge against your credit pool.

What if I cancel mid-month?

You keep access through the end of the current billing period — we don't pro-rate refunds, but we don't cut you off the day you cancel either. Your credit pool is yours to spend until the period ends. After that you drop to Basic (free tier) and your data stays put; you can resubscribe whenever and pick up where you left off.

Do unused credits roll over?

Plan-included credits reset at the start of each billing cycle — they don't roll over. Top-up pack credits (purchased à la carte at $0.005/credit) do roll over and don't expire. The pattern most customers use: subscribe to the plan that covers their normal monthly usage, top up with a pack when they have a one-off scaling event (a launch month, a competitive audit blitz).

Is there a free tier?

Yes. The Basic plan is $0/month with an integration installed: 10 free articles per month, 3 national keyword seats (teaser), 500 monthly credits for audits and rank checks, all the free tools, the backlink exchange, GBP linking. No card required to sign up. Most teams stay on Basic until they hit one of the rank-tracking or AI rank ceilings, then upgrade.

What about white-label / agency pricing?

Agency plans (Boost / Growth / Dominate — see the agency tier section further down this page) are sales-led and start at $2,000/month. They include white-label client reporting, dedicated SEO strategists, and done-for-you content production at higher volumes. Per-org branding and the white-label dashboard are in roadmap on every tier — see /white-label-solutions for the agency overview, or /contact-us for a custom quote.

How do I upgrade or downgrade?

From the in-app /billing page. Upgrades take effect immediately and are pro-rated for the current period; downgrades take effect at the start of the next period (so you keep the higher tier through what you already paid for). Switching tiers preserves all your data — websites, schedules, generated articles, GBP links — nothing gets deleted.

Do you offer annual discounts?

Yes — annual billing saves 2 months (you pay 10 months upfront, get 12). Use the monthly / annual toggle above the plan cards to switch. The annual price wire-up on each card is currently in flight; for an annual quote today, talk to sales and we'll generate a Stripe checkout link with the annual price applied.
