About this metric

This is the pipeline of AI infrastructure that has been announced but not yet energized: the sum of planned facility power across every U.S. state with reviewed project evidence. It measures intent at grid scale, the capacity developers and hyperscalers say they will build, state by state and project by project.

Each state's figure is the sum of Epoch AI's latest future-milestone facility-power estimates for distinct reviewed facilities attributed to that state, and this chart totals those states. Planned does not mean permitted, financed, constructed, or energized; projects fall out of the series when they are cancelled and graduate out when they become operational.

Announced capacity is where the AI buildout becomes visible to everyone outside the industry: utilities planning generation, states competing on power price and permits, and investors sizing the capital cycle. A growing total means the buildout is still accelerating; a flattening total is the earliest public sign of digestion.
