Google AI Overviews

AI Overviews Rank Tracker

Start with a free check: enter a keyword and your domain, and we fetch a live Google result to see whether an AI Overview appears and whether it cites your site. Tracking means repeating that across your whole keyword set every day, which is what the rank.ai platform does.

Checking is a snapshot. Tracking is the job.

AI Overviews sit above position 1. When Google shows one, it answers the query before any organic listing gets seen, and click-through to the classic results drops sharply. That makes AI Overview presence and citation the first two questions for any keyword you rank for, ahead of your organic position. The widget above answers both for a single keyword right now with a live SERP fetch, the same one-off check as our AI Overview checker.

The catch is that AI Overviews fluctuate. Google adds and removes them per query as it tunes trigger behavior, the cited sources rotate, and a keyword that had no overview last month may have one today. A single check tells you what happened once; it can undersell the risk on a keyword where the overview appears intermittently, or miss the week a competitor displaced you from the citation list. That gap between check and track is the whole reason rank trackers exist.

A proper AI Overview rank tracker runs your full keyword set on a schedule and charts four things: your AIO presence rate (what share of your keywords trigger an overview), your citation status on each of those keywords, which competitors are getting cited instead, and how all of it moves over time. That is what the rank.ai platform does, with daily sampling across your keywords alongside eight other AI engines. Run a full AI ranking check to see it on your own domain.

Improving your citation odds is content work: lead with a direct answer to the query, back it with original data, and keep structure clean so Google can extract from the page. Our AI Overviews guide covers how overviews are assembled, and the answer engine optimization playbook covers the tactics that raise citation rates across Google and the chat engines alike.

Frequently asked.

What is the difference between this and the AI Overview checker?
The widget is the same one-off check: one keyword, one live SERP, a verdict on overview presence and citation. This page is about the tracking layer on top. A checker answers 'what does Google show right now'; a tracker runs your whole keyword set daily and charts presence rate, citation share, and competitor citations over time. The free check is the starting point, the rank.ai platform is the tracker.
How often do AI Overviews change?
Constantly, on two axes. Google keeps tuning which queries trigger an overview at all, so presence comes and goes per keyword over weeks and months. And for keywords that do trigger one, the cited sources rotate as pages are updated and rankings shift. Daily sampling is the practical cadence for catching both kinds of movement.
Can I track AI Overviews in a normal rank tracker?
Mostly not. Classic rank trackers report your organic position and sometimes flag that an AI Overview exists, but they rarely parse the overview's citation list, which is the metric that matters. Knowing you rank #3 under an overview that cites three competitors is a very different situation from ranking #3 under an overview that cites you. You need citation-level tracking to tell them apart.
Does ranking #1 guarantee I get cited in the AI Overview?
No. Overview citations correlate with top rankings, but Google assembles the overview from pages it can extract a clear answer from, and those are often not the #1 result. It is common to rank #1 while the overview cites pages ranking #4 and #7, or pages from outside the top 10 entirely. Ranking and citation are separate prizes and need to be measured separately.
How does rank.ai track AI Overviews?
The platform fetches live Google results for your keyword set every day, detects whether an AI Overview is present on each, parses the citation list, and records whether your domain and your competitors' domains are cited. Over time that becomes a presence-rate trend and a citation-share trend per keyword, alongside the same daily tracking across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and the other AI engines.
