Enter a keyword and your domain. Rank.ai runs the search on Google and tells you whether an AI Overview appeared, whether it cites your site, which sources it lists and where you rank in the organic results below it.

How it works

One keyword, one search, one answer

01

Enter a keyword and your domain

Use a search your customers make, and the domain you want to see cited. Subdomains of your domain count as yours.

02

Rank.ai runs the search

The keyword goes through Google once, by way of a search API, and Rank.ai reads the AI Overview block and the organic results. A keyword checked in the last 24 hours comes from the cache.

03

Read the answer

You see whether an Overview appeared, whether it cites your domain, the pages it lists, and your position if you are in the top 20 organic results.

Why it matters

Why AI Overviews change your keyword math

Google says it shows an AI Overview only when its systems judge that it adds something to the classic results, so many searches never get one. When one appears, it sits above the organic results with links to the pages Google drew on, and a page ranked first organically is seen lower on the screen.

So for any keyword you care about, two questions come before position tracking: does Google show an Overview, and are you one of the linked sources? This checker answers both for one keyword. Ranking second organically while the Overview cites three competitors means the answer above you is taking attention you used to get. No Overview at all means the keyword still behaves like a classic search.

Google says there are no extra requirements to appear in AI Overviews: a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet, and the usual SEO best practices apply. The answer engine optimization guide covers the content side, and the AI Overviews guide explains the feature.

AI Overviews are one AI surface among several. Buyers also ask ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini directly, and the AI visibility checker asks those three one question for you.

Frequently asked

How does the AI Overview checker work?
Rank.ai runs your keyword through Google once with a search API, checks whether the results include an AI Overview, and reads its text and sources. Each source is compared with your domain, subdomains included, and your position in the top 20 organic results is reported. A keyword checked in the last 24 hours comes from the cache.
Why does Google show an AI Overview for some keywords and not others?
Google says it shows an AI Overview only when its systems judge that it adds to the classic results, and that they often don't appear. Whether one shows can also change from day to day for the same search.
The checker found no AI Overview. Does that mean there isn't one?
Not always. The result means the search API didn't detect one: some searches have no Overview, and for others Google shows one to some searchers only. Check again later, or search it yourself, before you rule it out.
I rank first organically but the Overview doesn't cite me. Does my ranking still matter?
Yes. Your organic listing still earns clicks, though it sits lower on the screen when an Overview appears above it. The pages an Overview links to can differ from the top organic results, because Google may run several related searches to build the answer, so a citation is a separate prize worth working for.
How do I get my site cited in AI Overviews?
Google says the same SEO best practices apply, with no extra requirements: the page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. Beyond that, answer the question clearly and early on the page, back it with evidence, and keep the page easy to crawl.
Do AI Overview results differ by location or device?
They can. Whether an Overview appears, and which sources it lists, can vary by country, language and device. This free check runs from one default location, so treat it as a sample.
Is there a limit on free checks?
Yes. Checks are limited per visitor each hour and each day so the tool stays free, and a keyword checked by anyone in the last 24 hours comes back from the cache.
