Rank.ai Agent for Slack

Drop the bot in any Slack workspace, mention it, get answers. This page is the install walkthrough plus the full command + permissions reference.

1. Install

You need to be an admin of both your rank.ai org and your Slack workspace. Free-tier rank.ai orgs can’t install — upgrade to any paid plan first.

  1. Go to app.rank.ai/account/integrations/slack and click Add to Slack.
  2. Pick the workspace, review the requested permissions, click Allow.
  3. Slack drops you back in the dashboard with confirmation. The bot is now in your workspace as @Rank.ai Agent.
  4. Invite it to any channel: /invite @Rank.ai Agent.

2. Commands

Mention the bot

In any channel where the bot is present, just @-mention it and ask your question:

  • @Rank.ai Agent which keywords are worst this month?
  • @Rank.ai Agent compare me to ncino.com in Boston
  • @Rank.ai Agent show me the grid for ‘dentist’ in Austin

The bot replies in-thread. Follow-ups in the same thread keep the conversation context for 24 hours.

DM the bot

Same as a mention, but private. Useful for exploratory questions you don’t want to post in a channel.

Slash commands

  • /rank help — list available commands
  • /rank usage — current-month bot spend + budget cap for your workspace
  • /rank link — link your Slack user to your rank.ai account (required in strict-mode workspaces)
  • /rank audit example.com — kick off a new audit (with confirmation before any credits are spent)

3. Permissions & scopes

Rank.ai Agent requests a deliberately narrow set of Slack scopes. Each one is justified below; we never ask for permissions we don’t use.

  • app_mentions:read + chat:write + chat:write.public — receive mentions and post replies in-thread.
  • commands — register the /rank slash command.
  • im:read + im:history + im:write — support DM conversations with the bot.
  • links:read + links:write — expand app.rank.ai/audit/report/… URLs into rich previews.
  • team:read + users:read — resolve workspace + user display names for friendlier responses.

4. Budget & pricing

The bot is free on every paid rank.ai plan. We keep it sustainable with a per-workspace monthly LLM budget (default $20/mo). When your workspace hits the cap, the bot goes silent until the next billing cycle and tells the user what happened.

Org admins can raise the cap up to $200/mo without contacting support, from the dashboard’s Slack integrations tab. Use /rank usage to check current spend.

5. Privacy & data

  • Message bodies are not persisted in our application logs — only metadata (channel, user hash, latency, tools called) for debugging.
  • Per-thread conversation memory expires after 24 hours.
  • Uninstall = immediate deletion of conversation state and revocation of the bot’s service API key.
  • Full data-handling details in our privacy policy.

6. Troubleshooting

Bot isn’t responding

  • Make sure you @-mention the bot directly (it should turn into a colored link).
  • Confirm the bot is in the channel: /invite @Rank.ai Agent.
  • Check /rank usage — if you’re over budget the bot is silent.
  • Check status.rank.ai for any current incidents.

Disconnect

From the dashboard at app.rank.ai/account/integrations/slack click Disconnect Slack. Or remove the app from Slack’s workspace admin page. Either way, we clean up immediately.
